Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving
Day is an annual one-day holiday
to give thanks (traditionally to
God) at the close of the harvest
season. In the United States, Thanksgiving
is celebrated on the fourth Thursday
of November. In Canada, it is celebrated
on the second Monday in October.
In the United Kingdom, Thanksgiving
is another name for the Harvest
festival, held in churches across
the country on a relevant Sunday
to mark the end of the local harvest,
though it is not thought of as a
major event (compared to Christmas
or Easter) as it is in other parts
of the world. This tradition was
taken to North America by early
settlers, where it became much more
important.
The reason for establishing Thanksgiving
was to recommend to the people of
the United States a day of public
thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed
by acknowledging with grateful hearts
the many and single favors of Almighty
God, especially by affording them
an opportunity peaceably to establish
a form of government for their safety
and happiness.
Since 1863, Thanksgiving has
been observed annually in the United
States. Besides the traditional
dinner, we celebrate Thanksgiving
Day in many different ways. We watch
football, watch parades, shop, vacation,
fish, hunt, hike etc.
We all have something to be thankful
for. In my case I have a great family.
My beautiful, intellegent, fun loving
wife, two sons, a great mother-in-law,
daughter-in law and my first grand
daughter Isabelle. I have brothers,
sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces,
nephews and lots of love. I value
the friends I have made in the industry
since 1972.
I thought my life could not get
better until Isabelle came along.
She has changed my world in so many
different ways I never thought possible.
I am sure many of you can relate
to what I am going to say.
Before she was born my son Joey
and daughter-in-law Gloria spoke
and sang to her. At 2 years
and 3 months, she knows her ABC’s,
counts in english and spanish, can
name most animal and the sound they
make. She likes to read. Eighty
percent of her toys are books. On
a daily basis Isabelle learns something
new. I am proud of Isabelle and
her parents. Our whole family is
thankful for Isabelle. Oh!
Did I mention she loves to dance
with her Papa - that's me!
The only way we'll get better is
to nurture this industry and our
companies. We have to teach
each other and guide ourselves to
make this industry better.
Being part of PSOC has helped me
nurture my company and make it viable
for the future. You are never
too young or old to learn something.
Come to our convention and teach
others what you know.
The appliance and electronics
industry should be thankful too!
The best harvest we have ever had
in my opinion is here. The new technology
brings with it many challenges and
opportunities. The last three years
have been the best for my company
in ten years. You must be open to
change, everything around you is
changing.
Some of the challenges will continue
to be the cost of doing business,
parts availabilty, slow pay, and
shortage of techs. We must continue
to educate both servicers and manufactures
in this area so we can both have
a clear vision on what is needed
to make our industry better.
The new technologies coming from
the electronics industry will keep
us busy for many seasons to come.
Mitsubishi just introduced the first
laser based Hi-Def TV. The new technology
utilizes separate red, green and
blue semiconductors.
Toshiba plans to unveil what is
called the plasma/LCD killer. Surface
Conduction Electron Emitter Device,
(SED). This new technolgy combines
the best of CRT and Flat Panel technolgy.
The appliance manufactures already
have smart appliances on the market.
Yes, our industrys have a lot
to be thankful for. Harvest for
the future, attend the PSOC convention
in May 2007, Make sure you
keep your family strong, business
profitable, and above all thank
GOD!
May you and yours have a Happy
Thanksgiving Day.
