It
isn’t always fun to be a statistic,
just ask the over 2000 appliance
and electronic service company owners
who went out of business in
California
in the last five years.
They will tell you there
were many reasons they failed but
very few will tell you it was because
of lack of business acumen, and
yet it is one thing they all had
in common.
With
that thought in mind, PSOC has initiated
a series of seminars to help independent
service companies cope with the
changing business environment. The
first classes covering laws and
costs were well received and plans
are in the works for more. The plan
is to take the classes throughout
the state and we are asking all
PSOC members to attend and bring
one non-member with you.
PSOC
held seminars at
Hacienda
La Puente
Adult
Schools in
La Puente
and
Abram
Friedman
Technical
School in
Los Angeles.
We want to thank Val Rodriquez and
George Cisneros from Hacienda La
Puente, and Jack Geer and Stan Goldstein
from Abram Friedman for their time
and effort to make this a success.
A special thank you to Andrews Electronics
for sponsoring these classes. Both
venues were well attended by students
and business owners.
Our
goal is to inform independent service
businesses on any new regulations
that might affect their ability
to operate. Conducting seminars
in trade schools allows PSOC to
train students, who are future technicians
or business owners, to the reality
of the Appliance and Electronics
service industry.
This
is just the beginning. Watch for
PSOC classes in your area. Remember
that if something is worth doing
it is worth doing well and if you
do nothing, but do it well, you
can feel good about doing nothing
well. On the other hand if you decide
to participate but think you don’t
need any new ideas or information,
come as you are but stay in the
car.
A special
thanks goes out to Bert Miles with
Coast Appliance Parts, Rick Diamond
with the Bureau of Electronics and
Appliance Repair and Eloy Fierro
with PSOC. They conducted the classes
on The Value of Your Service; Write
it Right, rules and regulations
and The Song Beverly Consumer Protection
Law, civil code 1793.3.
Keep an eye open for future business
and technical seminars throughout
California
sponsored by PSOC.
